Ulrich’s 5-RBI Game Helps Chargers Earn Split at Rock Valley

The Carl Sandburg College baseball team split a pair of slugfests Sunday at Rock Valley in a nonconference doubleheader, falling 9-7 before rallying to win 15-10 in Game 2.

Key Moment
The Chargers scored four times in the fifth to tie the game at 7, but the Golden Eagles got a pair of RBI singles in the bottom half to regain the lead.

Cacey O’Brien (Moline, Ill./Moline) singled twice, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Chargers.

Key Moment
RVC led 10-7 after five, but the Chargers scored four in both the sixth and seventh for a comeback victory. Kevin Ulrich (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson) tied the game with a two-run single, and Black Russell (Joy, Ill./Mercer County) scored the go-ahead run on a two-out infield hit from Austin Traub (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline).

Sandburg hosts Black Hawk in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Tuesday to decide the Arrowhead Conference championship. A split would mean the teams share the title, and a sweep for either side would give it to them outright. Sandburg is in search of its first Arrowhead championship since 2008.
